The Strange Last Voyage of Aaron and JD.

Friday

Fours hours from thursday the alarm went off and we rolled from our bunks with bleary eyes. By the time my feet hit the deck the first mate was already driving on his hunt for plexiglass. We had decided the night prior that without the plexiglass to make the stormcovers for our port lights that we would not be able to cast off on saturday. We had hit the limit on our budget some days ago and began to squeeze. By this point the budget has been run dry.

We were figuring the plexiglass could run as much as $1000. Aaron called me from the plexiglass store to inform me they did not have enough 1/2" plexi to complete our task. I immediately began to consider compromising the safety of the vessel in an effort to make our voyage. I asked Aaron if they had enough 1/2" plexi to complete the two forward storm covers. Aaron said he would check and call me back.

Minutes later the phone rang and the mate informed me that not only did they have enough plexi, but that if we lined the employees pockets with cash that he would sell us the 1/2" plexi for $50. I jumped for joy, and immediately remembered the 6'4" ceiling. No more jumping on this trip.

I began working on the engine and related systems. I changed the oil, checked various fluid levels, installed new throttle and shift control cables and found the source of our coolant leak and repaired it.

Meanwhile, Aaron returned with our ill-booten gotty and began working on the storm covers. After a few minor slowdowns he managed to cut all the pieces. The sun set, and Aaron's friend Lisa arrived. The two of them went to Applebees for dinner. I stayed and cleaned the bilge under the engine and fixed the lid on our fresh water tank that blew off while filling yesterday due to a clogged vent line.

I then called my Mother to reassure her that all is well. Then I called Tlaloc to give him an update. The deserters returned to the ship bearing gifts of steak and ribs thereby returning to the captains good graces.

We have decided that due to the large number of miscellaneous projects still unaccomplished that we will be delaying our departure until Sunday. I must go now since it appears that Lisa is attempting to torch her pistachio creme brulee with some sort of handheld pyro device and I fear for the safety of our vessel.

So long for now and thanks for reading...

May the winds fills your sails.

You may think, "here he goes agian, being all doey eyed about hte damn wind and sails again, but I mean it. Hopfully you can save some money on fuel. The stuff is expensive. With luck you could have some left for a future voyage or day sail.

What direction do you expect the wind to be from?

Have you had the much sought-after seatrail? I am thinking that that was not accomplished due to lack of time.

Are you still just the two of you or has anyone joined you for the voyage?

Something that I wanted but was unable to ask you the other day is, how captain Russ has been? Have you had much contact with the interesting marina rats around Dataw Island?

Not to give you more work, but if its easy take a quick picture of you first navigational route on the chart I would be greatly interested in that.

Capt'n JD: "Ready about"
Mate Aaron: "Ready"
Capt'n JD: Helms-a-lee

I wish I could be there to here that for the first time on the "Swift Lady Kaoss" not long before...

..." JIBE HO!"
"WATCH YOUR HEAD"
"MAN OVERBOARD"

Again I hope the sails are filled if not the tanks.
Have fun hitting the slack tide tommorow and good luck.
Enjoy at least one minute of every watch...you know for morale!

Tlaloc "grinding his teeth with envy" Lopez-Watermann

Good luck on your trip.

Good luck on your trip. Looking forward to the next posting.
Have fun!!!!!!!

Word to your Mutha

If I had had the choice between going to Applebee’s and staying to clean the bilge under the engine, I'd have stayed, too. My social and moral conscience cannot be lead astray to partake of such hideous degradation of sub standard fare. But enough of that, I can't believe you can lie to your own Mother on the phone of your progress when I know she's been reading this. I READ HER COMMENT SO I KNOW SHE KNOWS THE TRUTH. In light of that the phone conversation must have been like this.

Brring Briing?

JD's MOM: Hello?

JD: Hi Mom?

JD's MOM: JD? Why are you calling at 3:00 in the morning. You're really afraid you're going to die aren't you?

JD: Uh. No? I just called to tell you everything is alright.

JD's MOM: Have you been drinking?

As far Lisa and pyrotechnic devices you have every right to be afraid. Back when we were all living on Nebraska St. She used to get very bored and spray hairspray (Aquanet of course) on the ceiling in intricate patterns then light it off with the flick of a Bic. Needless to say this did nothing for my anxiety. Aaron informed me via telephone yesterday that you are planning to take her out to see on the maiden voyage. You should totally make her walk the plank if the weather's nice, as women on ships is bad luck. Don't worry she's a strong swimmer. Take lots of pictures.
